HEY! It's Good Enough.
Healthy Eating for Real Life
Eating healthy doesn't have to mean eating perfectly.
In fact, one of the biggest challenges I see with my patients isn't knowing what to eat. It's finding a way to eat well that they can maintain.
So instead of following strict food rules or spending hours planning the perfect meals, what if we focused on finding ways to eat well that actually WORK for our lives?
Meet the HEY Method
That's where the HEY Method comes in. It's a simple approach to healthy eating I use with my patients, built around 3 key principles:

H
1. HEALTHY Enough
Is this healthy enough to keep me full and nourish my body?
Not every meal needs to have the least calories, be perfectly balanced or packed with every nutrient.
What matters more is getting more bang for your buck out of the food you choose eat.
Think about what you can add or swap to get more fullness and nourishment.
E
2. Easy Enough
Is this easy enough that I would actually repeat it?
Let's face it, we're all too busy!
Keep a few easy staples in your fridge, freezer, and pantry so that eating well doesn't have to take a whole lot of effort.
We're not trying harder, we're trying smarter..

3. Yummy Enough
Is this yummy enough that I would eat it again?
Being physically full isn't the same as feeling satisfied. Food is one of the pleasures of life. Flavour, texture, and enjoyment matter!
Find ways to make your food taste good so that healthy eating is something you actually enjoy and even look forward to.
Don't Forget the "Enough"
Here's the most important part: Enough.
We're not trying to make every meal the healthiest, easiest, AND most delicious meal possible. Because realistically, that's not always going to happen.
Some days you might have more time to cook. Other days, convenience matters more. And sometimes, you just really want to eat some ice cream...
The idea is to find a balance between all three that works for you, rather than expecting every meal to be perfect.
Because when something is good enough to keep doing, that's when it can really make a difference.

Putting HEY into Practice
Let's say you're too tired to cook dinner. Instead of making an elaborate meal or ordering takeout, maybe you throw together some rotisserie chicken, microwave rice, and frozen veggies with your favourite store-bought sauce.
Ask yourself:
-
Is it healthy enough?
-
Is it easy enough?
-
Is it yummy enough?
If it works for you, even if it's not perfect... HEY! It's good enough.
